Thaifoodies Shanghai Trip! Hyatt Place Hongqiao - Review!
Babe and Nut traveled to Shanghai China to explore this vibrant Chinese metropolis. The base of operations was the Hyatt Place Hongqiao! Check out our review of not only the chic hotel but also the many cool things to do in the area.
The rooms at Hyatt Place Hongqiao are huge and NEW! We stayed in the King Suite. This huge room features two bathrooms, a massive living room with couch and dining table. Our room had a nice city view. Breakfast is included and presents a nice international selection. (click any image to enlarge)
There is a lovely outdoor garden area for guests located on 2nd floor. You can enjoy a garden view with gentle breezes. The staff are at the front desk and friendly and communicate well in English.
From the Hyatt Place Hongqiao you can walk to The Hub department store. The Hub is very large department store featuring many clothing shops, cafes and restaurants. Babe recommends Chuan Dioao Chinese restaurant with its huge portions and reasonably priced menu . You must try Mapo tofu, Yu-Shiang Shredded Pork, Soy sauce fried rice, Geleshan spicy chicken and sauteed green beans everything is very tasty and authentic Chinese food.
Also recommended is a Japanese restaurant called Ape Grill. Try the Teriyaki Chicken with rice with crispy chicken skin, sweet teriyaki sauce served on Japanese rice and boiled egg, the set includes soup and pickles.
The Hyatt place is also with walking distance to the Hongqiao train station.
On our second day , we went to check out Qibao Ancient Town just 9km from Hyatt Place.
We spent couple of hours sightseeing and trying some local food.
That evening we walked to "Hotel Indigo Hongqiao" to chill at Bar 188 on the top of building drinking red wine on roof top in the cold weather was perfect for the Thaifoodies team!
On the last day of our trip, we moved to "Hyatt On the Bund" another excellent Hyatt Hotel.
We checked in and walked around Nanjing road, for street shopping and to check out the many department stores.
We passed the Central department store (On East Nanjing Lu) and we visited a wonderful ramen restaurant on 2nd floor called Sekiya Ramen. We had large, inexpensive bowl of traditional ramen, We ordered Tonkatsu ramen Buta nankatsu ni ramen Gyoza, iceberg lettuce with garlic and dried fish the ramen soup is rich and full of flavor. Tender juicy pork top up with boiled egg, sweet corn and seaweed. You can add more side dishes from the counter bar for free which includes pickles, celery, chili, and garlic.
We returned to the Hyatt on the Bund for dinner. We had an amazing buffet at Aroma from 18.00 - 22.00 including wine and beer. Delicious seafood, roast duck , roast pork, and the seafood is super fresh!
After dinner we headed up to VUE bar on 32nd floor with a stunning panorama of the The Bund and the lights of Shanghai. Great cocktails try their Negroni!
Club access rooms enjoy drinks and snacks available all day at the club lounge. Wine, beer, and Whiskey is available between 17.30 to 20.00 also with snacks and food. We recommend the upgrade! Our room was comfy with an amazing view of the Bund. Our room included an all you can eat breakfast buffet.
The Hotel has a drop-off service, you can make a reservation with front desk. We got very good drop off service with a new Mercedes Benz! The driver was polite and drove smoothly.
When we arrived at Pudong Airport we decided to eat again! Yes! we are foodies and are always hungry! We choose Tsingtao it is a restaurant and bar, Nice ambiance cool decorations. They have many kinds of beer, Tsingtao Stout beer, Pilsner beer, draft beer, White beer and more. The food is very good there. We love Bibimbab Beef Korean rice in hotpot, mixed sausages, and Siu mai pork"
This was our first overseas trip but we hope to have many more in the future.
