The Thaifoodies team did our first review of an ibis hotel recently when we visited the ibis Styles Bangkok Sukhumvit 50 Hotel to review their value rooms and check out the fare in their bistro – The Terminal.

Check out our video review below:

ibis by Accorhotels is an economy hotel brand known around the world for their quality rooms at very affordable prices. The ibis Styles Bangkok Sukhumvit 50 Hotel fits this description nicely with modern, well appointed rooms, good facilities and service, all in a budget price range. Rooms as low as $36 per night are available!

Babe stayed in a 48 sq.m Single King room for 2,200 baht ($67) per night. This well appointed room features two large flat screen TVs – one for the living area and one for the sleeping area, desk, mini-fridge, in-room safe, coffee/tea set and bath with shower. The room was squeaky clean and all the furnishings still looked new.

Guests can use the hotel’s free tuk-tuk service to each the BTS (skytrain) allowing easy access to all of greater Bangkok in air-conditioned comfort.

After checking out the room we were hungry and so headed down to The Terminal restaurant to sample to fare on offer. The Terminal serves as an all-day bistro serving Thai and international cuisines and is also where the Ibis’ breakfast buffet is served.

We started with a lovely Caesar Salad (160 Baht/$4.80), and then Thai Prawn Cakes (140 Baht/$4.25). Both were yummy but the prawn cakes were especially good, crispy and bursting with prawn served with fresh Thai pineapple and plum sauce.

Next up was a half-rack of BBQ Pork Ribs (260 Baht/$7.88) and a very special Tom Yum Seafood Pizza (240 Baht/US$7.28). The pork ribs were tender and sweet, served with fries and a grilled pepper medley and really hit the spot! The Tom Yum pizza was inspired. It really captured the very Thai taste of Tom Yum on a pizza! Topped with shrimp and squid this dish is a must try when visiting ibis!

For those who are craving more familiar dishes do try the Ibis Pork Burger (260 Baht/$7.88). Served on a lovely brioche bun with fries this is a perfect alternative for those who don’t eat beef. Yummy and a big portion!

Our last entrée was a traditional Pad Thai Kung (160 Baht/$4.84). Perfectly prepared sticky rice noodles and topped with fresh sweet Thai prawns this is an absolute MUST TRY! You'll thank us!

We finished up with a homemade Fudge Brownie and Vanilla Ice Cream (120 Baht/$3.63) and a Mango Honey Toast which featured an array of fresh mango and mango sorbet served atop sweet toast.

While not located directly in the downtown area of Bangkok, the value proposition of the Ibis Style Bangkok Sukhumvit 50 is extremely competitive given that you are only a short free ride away from the BTS. Great, modern rooms starting at only $36 per night this value property is the perfect base for budget travelers required high quality accommodation and services – check it out – you’ll thank us!
